Lady Lions Host Michigan In Play4Kay Game Benefiting Pink Zone Sunday



UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. –
The Penn State women's basketball team hosts its 13th-annual Play4Kay game benefiting Pink Zone Sunday afternoon when the Lady Lions welcome Michigan to the Bryce Jordan Center for a 2 p.m. tipoff.

SCOUTING MICHIGAN

  • Michigan enters Sunday's contest with a 15-9 overall record and 6-6 mark in Big Ten play.
  • The Wolverines are riding a three-game winning streak after capturing victories over Iowa (90-81), Wisconsin (76-70) and Nebraska (67-61).
  • Michigan is 10-1 at home, but just 3-7 in road games thus far this season. The Wolverines are 1-5 in conference away games, with that lone win coming at Wisconsin (76-70) on Feb. 3.

  • Penn State holds a 36-15 edge in the all-time series against Michigan, including a 17-3 advantage in home games against the Wolverines.
  • Michigan has won five of the last six matchups, however, including a postseason victory in the most recent meeting between the two teams in the Big Ten Tournament last season.
  • The Wolverines used a strong defensive effort to hand Penn State a 77-48 loss on March 1.
  • Teniya Page paced Penn State with 12 points, while Amari Carter followed with eight.

PLAY4KAY BENEFITING PINK ZONE

  • Pink Zone and Penn State Lady Lion Basketball are a unified force in the fight against breast cancer on the court, across campus and within communities. Pink Zone promotes cancer awareness and empowers survivors through year-long efforts to raise funds critical in supporting vital breast cancer organizations, charities and facilities that focus on breast cancer education, research, diagnosis, prevention and treatment.
  • The Lady Lions own a 7-5 record in the Play4Kay game benefiting Pink Zone, including a five-game winning streak from 2010-14.
  • Pink Zone at Penn State has raised more than $2.1 million in funds over its 12 years, including a record $310,000 in 2014.
  • The event began in 2007 with $20,490 raised and 31 cancer survivors in attendance, and has grown into an event that has raised over $200,000 in six of the last seven years and welcomed upwards of 500 cancer survivors annually.
  • Pink Zone's six beneficiaries include: Mount Nittany Health Foundation, Penn State Cancer Institute, Kay Yow Foundation, PA Breast Cancer Coalition, JC Blair Memorial Hospital and Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital.

 
AN EVENT LIKE NO OTHER

  • Penn State was the first team in the NCAA to don pink uniforms, debuting the threads on Feb. 4, 2007 against Wisconsin at the Bryce Jordan Center.
  • The Lady Lion program has been honored as the Play4Kay Division I initiative winner twice in program history, winning the award in 2013 and 2014.

 
A LEAGUE OF HER OWN

  • Teniya Page is the first player in Lady Lion history to eclipse 2,000 career points, 400 career assists and 400 career rebounds.
  • She reached the milestone on Feb. 6 at Ohio State when she dished her fifth assist of the game and 400th of her career.
  • Page was just the second currently active Division I player who has accomplished all three feats. Central Michigan's Presley Hudson was the first currently active DI player to join the 2,000/400/400 club.
