Four Nittany Lions Earn First Team All-American Awards

USTFCCCA Release

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Four Penn State track & field student-athletes earned first team All-American honors as announced by the U.S Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).  Two student-athletes from both the Nittany Lions men's and women's track and field teams earned first team recognition.   Student-athletes who finished in the top eight of their individual events at the NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field Championships earned first team recognition.

Danae Rivers, Alexis Holmes, Morgan Shigo and David Lucas all earned first team All-American awards for their outstanding performances at the NCAA Indoor Championships.

Danae Rivers made history by claiming the first indoor track & field individual national championship for the women's track and field program.  Rivers, now a four-time indoor track & field All-American, came from behind on the final straightaway to secure her national title in the women's 800-meter run.  Rivers was also named Mid-Atlantic Track Athlete of the Year for the third consecutive season and won her third straight Big Ten championship in the 800m.

Alexis Holmes earned her first All-American award after a standout freshman indoor campaign.  Holmes placed fourth at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships in the women's 400-meter run.  Holmes captured the Big Ten title earlier this month, also setting a school record during that event.

Morgan Shigo completed his indoor career by earning his first All-American award.  Shigo placed fifth in the men's weight throw at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships.

David Lucas earned his second All-American award after finishing eighth in the men's weight throw at this year's championships.  Lucas was an All-American last season for his performance in the weight throw.

Maddie Holmberg and Domenic Perretta also earned second team All-American recognition for their performances at the track & field championships.  Holmberg placed ninth in the pentathlon and Perretta finished ninth in the men's 800-meter run.

The Nittany Lions first full team meet of the outdoor season will be at the Sun Devil Invitational in Tempe, Arizona on March 22-23.
