Dubois Named Candidate for 2019 Senior CLASS Award

Senior CLASS Award Official Release

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Penn State softball senior Tori Dubois has been named one of 30 candidates for the 2019 Senior CLASS Award® in collegiate softball, as announced Thursday.

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.

Dubois is set to graduate in May 2019 with an undergraduate degree in advertising and public relations – advertising option, with a minor in business and the liberal arts. She has twice earned Academic All-Big Ten honors as well as scholar-athlete honors from the NFCA.

The Mt. Vernon, N.H., native currently serves on the senior leadership group for Penn State softball. She has been the driving force of the team's strong culture in her four years as a student-athlete.

Dubois maintains an active role in the Penn State community. She volunteers every year for Day of Caring, World Down Syndrome Day and the Penn State All-Sports Museum Trick-or-Treat event. Win or lose, she always makes sure to make time to interact with the community and fans post-game. She takes time to thank everyone for attending and happily signs autographs for fans.

In the game, Dubois has been clutch at the plate and on the field for the Nittany Lions. In 2017 she earned first-team All-Big Ten honors after hitting .457 in conference play to rank third. She had a team-best .346 batting average during the season that included 30 RBI, six doubles, two triples and six home runs. In the 2018 season, Dubois earned second-team All-Big Ten honors. She recorded a team-best .295 batting average for the second consecutive season, garnering 46 hits, eight doubles, nine home runs and 27 RBI. She had 74 putouts and three assists in left field for a .975 fielding percentage.

Dubois is a two-time Team Offensive Player of the Year (2017, 2018), and the 2018 Team MVP.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.

The 30 candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists later in the season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition.

The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the 2019 Women's College World Series®.

Dubois and the Nittany Lions kick off the 2019 home slate at Nittany Lion Softball Park and Beard Field on Wednesday, March 20 with a doubleheader against Robert Morris starting at 5 p.m.
