NEW YORK, N.Y.-- The Penn State women's tennis team lost a tight match to No. 42 Columbia, 4-2, Saturday evening at the Dick Savitt Tennis Center.
Penn State moves to 7-3 on the season and remains 1-0 in the Big Ten. Columbia improves to 8-1.
"We competed hard today in many ways, but we also left a lot on the table," said head coach Chris Cagle. " Our team can compete at this level and higher, but we also need to get better in a few areas. I look forward to our spring break in Florida and Monday will be an important day of practice to continue to get better!"
DOUBLES
Penn State fell behind 1-0 early after going 1-2 in doubles matches.
Gabby O'Gorman (Gunnedah, N.S. Wales, Australia) and Olivia Rohrbacher (Sandusky, Ohio) stretched their streak to nine wins with a victory over Akanksha Bhan and Paulina Ferrari, 6-3.
SINGLES
No. 98 O'Gorman continued her dominance at the No. 1 spot grabbing a win over Jennifer Kerr, 6-3, 6-1. Chelsea Sawyer (Clemmons, N.C.) was victorious over Melissa Sakar, 6-4, 6-0.
Samantha Smith (Cary, N.C.) had her match go unfinished, but pushed Andrea Kevakian to a third set, 6-3, 1-6, 3-2. Smith is one singles win away from eclipsing 50 career singles wins.

Penn State will continue its spring break trip as the team travels to the sunshine state for two matches. First taking on Norfolk State on Tuesday, March 5 at 11:30 a.m. at Sanlando Park in Orlando, Fla. Then, the Nittany Lions will visit the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla. to take on VCU on Thursday, March 7 at 12 p.m.
