UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State men's golf team doesn't have too far to travel this weekend as it competes in the 2019 Big Ten Championships Friday-Sunday, April 26-28 in Flourtown, Pennsylvania in the greater Philadelphia metro area. The Wissahickon Course at the Philadelphia Cricket Club is the site of the event marking the third-straight year the championships will be played on the East Coast.
"We look forward to the Big Ten Championships at the Philadelphia Cricket Club this weekend," said head men's golf coach Greg Nye. "The renovation has been widely talked about in very favorable terms. We are extremely grateful to Philadelphia Cricket Club for stepping up to host."
The Nittany Lion starters, senior JD Hughes, junior Ryan Davis, senior Charles Huntzinger, senior Ryan Dornes and junior Alec Bard, will begin teeing off at 9:45 a.m. ET Friday morning with a single round scheduled for play each day. The Wissahickon Course plays at a par 70 with a 7,119-yard layout.
Live scoring for the event will be available online.
Commissioned in 1920, the same year of the first Big Ten Men's Golf Championships, and designed by the renowned A.W. Tillinghast, the Wissahickon Course opened in 1922. The course underwent a complete renovation in 2013-14 and was transformed back to its original design.
Wissahickon recently served as the site for the 2016 PGA Constellation Senior Players Championship and was selected by the PGA of America as the host site for the 2015 PGA Professional National Championship. In 2018, Wissahickon was ranked 20th on Golf Week's top-100 classic courses in the United States.
Penn State has earned top-four team finishes in three of the last four years at the Big Ten Men's Golf Championships with a fourth-place finish in 2018 at the Baltimore Country Club. Huntzinger (4th, 2017) and former Nittany Lion Cole Miller (2nd, 2018) each posted a top-four finish in the last two championship outings.
BTN will air coverage of the 2019 Big Ten Men's Golf Championships on Tuesday, May 7 at 5:00 p.m. ET.
