ROSEMONT, Ill. – Junior Alec Bard was selected as the Big Ten Conference 2019 Sportsmanship Award winner for Penn State as announced by the league office Tuesday.
The top Nittany Lion finisher at the 2019 Big Ten Conference Men's Golf Championships, Bard tied his career-low round of 69 in the final round of the championships at the Philadelphia Cricket Club and recorded his best collegiate season stroke average in 2018-19.
Bard, from New Hartford, New York, earned a share of the individual title at the 2019 Challenge at Champions event in Houston. He carded a 2-under 69 in the event for the first of his three career-low rounds this season.
The Sportsmanship Award goes to those individuals who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. Additionally, the student-athlete must be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting.
