Women’s Tennis Falls to Wisconsin, 4-2

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.-- The Penn State women's tennis team dropped a tight match to Wisconsin, 4-2, in Big Ten action Sunday afternoon at the Sarni Tennis Center. This marked the first outdoor match the Nittany Lions have hosted this season.

After dropping the doubles point in a tiebreak, the Nittany Lions (11-7, 3-4 B1G) stayed competitive in singles, but were unable to pull out the win over the Badgers (14-3, 6-1 B1G).

"First off, you give Wisconsin credit they played well," said head coach Chris Cagle. "We competed hard today and I give our girls credit for that. It's all of these Big Ten matches, it comes down to a couple points here and there, a tiebreak or some things like that. But, effort level and competitiveness was really high today from our team."

DOUBLES

The doubles point went down to the wire, with the Badgers ultimately prevailing in a tiebreak on court No. 2.

No. 79 Gabby O'Gorman (Gunnedah, N.S. Wales, Australia) and Olivia Rohrbacher (Sandusky, Ohio) defeated Anna Makarova and Lexi Keberle, 6-3. This marked the 13th win of the spring season for the duo, a team-high.

SINGLES

Penn State went 2-3 in singles play, pushing two matches to a third set and having one match go unfinished.

Frederikke Svarre (Copenhagen, Denmark) made quick work of her opponent Ava Markham, winning 6-1, 6-2. Samantha Smith (Cary, N.C.) gave the Nittany Lions their second point of the day, taking down Melissa Pick, 6-3, 6-1.

Chelsea Sawyer (Clemmons, N.C.) took on No. 94 Keberle, pushing her to a third set. When play ended Sawyer was up, 3-6, 7-5, 3-2, unfinished.
