UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Former Nittany Lion men's golf student-athlete Ryan Dornes won his U.S. Open qualifier at Makefield Highlands Golf Club while rising senior Ryan Davis was the top amateur at his New Jersey qualifier May 6. From Berkeley Heights, N.J., Davis placed third overall with 3-under 69 at the Alpine Country Club.
Dornes birdied his last final four holes and captured medalist honors with a 3-under 68 for one of the five qualifying positions in the Golf Association of Pennsylvania event.
The 119th U.S. Open is set for June 10-16 at Pebble Beach Golf Links in Pebble Beach, Calif.
