VANCOUVER, B.C. – Incoming freshman Kevin Wall (Fairport, N.Y.) became the 11th Nittany Lion in program history to be drafted by an NHL squad when he was selected in the sixth round, 181st overall, by the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday afternoon.
Wall will begin his career at Penn State this upcoming fall after spending the 2018-19 season with the Chilliwack Chiefs of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL). In 49 regular season games with the Chiefs, wall scored 31 goals while adding 33 assists for 64 points. His goal and point totals each ranked eighth in the BCHL.
Wall added a pair of goals and assists in 11 playoff games helping Chilliwack advance to the second round. The 19-year old was named a First-Team BCHL All-Star as well as a member of the All-Rookie team after playing the previous two seasons at the Salisbury School scoring 33 goals while adding 27 assists in 58 total games from 2016-18.
Wall joins current Nittany Lion draft picks Nikita Pavlychev (2015 – 197th overall – Pittsburgh), Denis Smirnov (2017 – 156th – Colorado), Evan Barratt (2017 – 90th – Chicago) Cole Hults (2017 – 134th – Los Angeles) and Aarne Talvitie (2017 – 160th – New Jersey) giving the Penn State six draft picks on the 2019-20 roster marking the most in a season in program history.
