MIRAMAR, Fla. - Freshman Justin Ofotan will represent team USA at the Pan American U20 Championships after his performance on Saturday in the 100m dash.
Ofotan, who recently competed his first season as a Nittany Lion, ran a blazing 10.24 seconds in the 100m dash prelims to qualify for the finals at the USATF U20 Outdoor Championships.
Following up his personal-best performance, Ofotan placed second in the 100m final with an even faster time of 10.21 seconds to qualify to represent the United States at the Pan American U20 Championships.
Ofotan's pervious personal-best mark was 10.38 seconds, which he set during the 2019 NCAA East Region Prelims in May.
The Penn State school record in the 100m dash is 10.32 seconds. This mark was set by Xavier Smith in 2018. Ofotan's top time as a Nittany Lion of 10.38 seconds ranks fourth all-time.
Gianna Rao also finished as a finalist in the women's hammer throw, placing fourth with a top distance of 56.34m on Friday.
Ofotan will represent the USA on July 19-21 in San Jose, Costa Rica at the Pan American U20 Championships.
Drew Maher will run Sunday, June 23, in the 1500m race with a chance to qualify for the Pan American U20 Championships.
