Men’s Tennis Garners ITA All-Academic Accolades

ITA Release

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State Men's Tennis squad has been named an Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-Academic Team, while two Nittany Lions earned Scholar-Athlete honors, the ITA announced recently.

Constant De La Bassetiere and Chris Kuhnle picked up individual honors as they earned ITA Scholar-Athlete laurels. In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must be a varsity letter winner, have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters.

The Nittany Lions were also honored as an All-Academic Team thanks to their strong overall team performance in the classroom. The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All varsity letter winners are factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year.

Penn State put together its third 20-plus win season in program history this year, finishing with a 20-9 record. All three 20-plus win seasons have come under the tenure of eighth-year head coach Jeff Zinn. Penn State advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the eighth time in program history and picked up a win in the tournament for the fifth time after defeating Monmouth 4-0 in first-round action.
