UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State women's lacrosse team landed five players on the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Honor Roll on Wednesday. Seniors Kayla Brisolari, Katie Garvey and Delaney Muldoon joined juniors Yasmain Hamood and Kristin Roberto on the honor roll. Members of the honor roll must be in their junior or senior seasons with a 3.50 or better cumulative GPA. The five helped the Nittany Lions to achieve a 3.46 GPA in the Spring 2019 semester. Penn State was named an IWLCA Academic Honor Squad for the fourth straight year.
During the Spring 2019 semester, 26 members of the women's lacrosse team earned a 3.0 or higher GPA. The Nittany Lions also had 19 members named to the Dean's List and completed the 2018-19 academic year with a 3.36 cumulative GPA.
"We are so proud our student-athletes' commitment to excellence both on and off the field," said Head Coach Missy Doherty. "To have 26 of your 32 players achieve a GPA of over 3.0 is outstanding, and we are extremely proud of our Honor Roll members."
Brisolari recently graduated with a degree in supply chain and information systems. She earned a cumulative 3.63 GPA. Brisolari is a three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection and a three-time Big Ten Distinguished scholar. On the field, Brisolari earned IWLCA first-team All-Region honors and was an All-Big Ten honoree this season after collecting 31 goals, eight assists, 37 ground balls, 73 draw controls and 26 caused turnovers, leading the team in the last three categories. She paced the Big Ten with 1.53 caused turnovers per game.
Garvey is also a three-time Academic All-Big Ten pick and a three-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar. The West Chester native graduated in May with a 3.68 GPA in supply chain and information systems. Garvey concluded her Nittany Lion career with three goals, two assists, two ground balls, three draw controls and a caused turnover.
Muldoon earned a 3.78 GPA as a psychology major before graduating in May. The senior claimed three Academic All-Big Ten honors and three Big Ten Distinguished Scholar awards. As a senior, the attacker tallied 19 goals, seven assists, 23 ground balls, a draw control and eight caused turnovers.
Hamood carries a 3.56 GPA as an advertising/public relations major. She has earned Academic All-Big Ten honors the last two seasons and was named a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar earlier in July. The Hinsdale, Illinois native had four goals and three ground balls in 2019.
Roberto has a 3.70 GPA in elementary and early childhood education. The New York native was an Academic All-Big Ten selection in 2018 and 2019 as well as a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar in 2019. She collected 19 goals, three assists, 17 ground balls, 34 draw controls and 12 caused turnovers as a junior.
The Nittany Lions won eight games in 2019, including victories over No. 11 Towson and No. 21 Johns Hopkins. Penn State is set to return 26 members for the 2020 season.
