UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Penn State announced its promotions/match theme schedule for the 2019 women's volleyball season on Wednesday. Two of the team's annual events highlight the schedule as the Nittany Lions will hold their Wear White Match when they host defending national champion Stanford on Sept. 13, and will hold their Dig Pink event when they welcome Ohio State to Rec Hall on Oct. 12.
The Lions open the season at home on Aug. 30-31 when they host Hofstra, Holy Cross, and Wichita State for the Penn State Classic. The team's opening tournament is also the first chance of the season to take advantage of the special pricing of $5 for a ticket when they show their ticket from the Idaho football game.
Including the three matches at the Penn State Classic, there are eight opportunities for fans to purchase a $5 ticket when they show their home football ticket from that weekend's game. The others are against Stanford on Sept. 13, Oregon on Sept. 14, Iowa on Oct. 5, Wisconsin on Nov. 29, and the regular season finale against Minnesota on Nov. 30.
Additional promotions include a Silent Set match against Michigan State on Sept. 25, Alumni Weekend against Rutgers on Sept. 28, and Ugly Sweater Night against Wisconsin on Nov. 29. The Silent Set match coincides with the International Week of the Deaf. More details about that promotion will be released at a later date.
Penn State is coming off its 38th consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament and finished last season ranked sixth in the country.
