ROSEMONT, Ill. – Penn State men's soccer student-athletes Brandon Hackenberg, Aaron Molloy and Pierre Reedy earned Big Ten preseason honors as announced by the conference office Tuesday.
Hackenberg, a redshirt junior from Palmyra, Va., earns preseason honors for the first time in his career. The defender appeared in all 17 matches for the Nittany Lions in 2018 as a key member of the backline that recorded six clean sheets, including three against Big Ten opponents. Hackenberg is a two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree and a 2018-19 Big Ten Distinguished Scholar.
Molloy, a senior from Dublin, Ireland, earns preseason honors for the third-straight season. In 2018, Molloy was named to the All-Big Ten second team and the United Soccer Coaches All-North Region third team. The midfielder had two goals and two assists in 15 matches last season.
Reedy, a redshirt junior from Kutztown, Pa., earns preseason honors for the second time in his career. The midfielder returns to the pitch in 2019 after missing the previous two seasons due to injury. As a true freshman in 2016, Reedy was named to the Big Ten All-Freshman Team. Reedy is a two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree and a 2018-19 Big Ten Distinguished Scholar.
Indiana was selected as the league's preseason favorite by the nine men's soccer coaches with the Nittany Lions picked to finish sixth in the conference, according to the poll.
Hackenberg, Molloy, Reedy and the 2019 squad open the season under second-year head coach Jeff Cook on Friday, Aug. 30 against No. 5 Stanford at Jeffrey Field. Parking and admission is free for all fans during regular-season games.
