Penn State vs. Maryland Game Preview
No. 12/11 Penn State travels to College Park, Maryland for its first Big Ten matchup of the season. The Nittany Lions own a 3-0 record while Maryland is 2-1 on the season. The Terps are led by first-year head coach Michael Locksley, who previously served as Maryland's interim head coach for six games during the 2015 season.
Following their win over Pittsburgh, Penn State has collected 10 consecutive regular-season non-conference victories. The Nittany Lions are opening conference play on the road for the ninth time in the last 10 years and second consecutive year on a Friday night. The game will be televised on FS1 and broadcasted on the Penn State Sports Network.
Penn State Spotlight
A product of Burtonsville, Maryland, Cam Brown will return home donning the Blue and White for the final time Friday. The last time Penn State traveled to College Park, Brown had three solo tackles and one assisted tackle in a 66-3 victory. "This is my last year, so I've been trying hard to try to get as many tickets as I can," Brown said during a press conference earlier this week. "I probably will need at the end of the day, probably plus-15 above my normal four." Through three games Brown has racked up 18 total tackles, nine solo, while also forcing a fumble against Buffalo. With family and friends in town, don't be surprised if No. 6 plays a key-role early for the Penn State defense.
Scouting the Terps
After starting the season with one of the nation's top statistical offenses, Maryland suffered its first loss of the season during its week three matchup with Temple. The Terps are led offensively by sophomore running back Anthony McFarland, who has rushed for a team leading 225 yards and five touchdowns. Maryland leads the Big Ten in rushing offense, averaging 277.3 yards per game. Defensively, the Terps rank 17thin the nation, limiting their opponents to an average of just 13.3 points per game. Defensive coordinator Jon Hoke and his defensive unit have collected 12.0 sacks, two interceptions and have forced three fumbles this season.
