MADISON, Wisc. - The Penn State women's soccer team dropped a Big Ten matchup with the Wisconsin Badgers on Sunday. A second half goal for Wisconsin was the difference in the 1-0 loss on a rainy afternoon.
The Nittany Lions came out of the gates quickly, tallying two shots in the first two minutes of play.
Sam Coffey nearly put the Nittany Lions on the scoreboard in the 17th minute. Coffey's shot was turned away by the Badgers' goalkeeper.
Penn State's back line didn't allow for a clean look in the first half for the Badgers. The Badgers had just three shots and none on goal in the first half.
Penn State outshot the Badgers 5-3 in the first half and had five corner kicks in the frame.
After 45 minutes of play, the Nittany Lions and Badgers went into halftime tied 0-0.
Just two minutes into the second half, the Badgers found the back of the net. A header by Emma Jaskaniec was just outside the reach of Amanda Dennis and the Badgers took a 1-0 lead.
The Badgers tallied four shots in the first 10 minutes of the second half following just three shots in the first half.
Penn State's first shot of the half came in the 79th minute as the Nittany Lions looked for the equalizer.
A long shot from Sam Coffey went wide in the 88th minute was Penn State's final shot as the Badgers held on for a 1-0 win.
The Nittany Lions return home to host Rutgers on Thursday, October 3.
