Penn State Continues Home Stand with Northwestern

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State men's soccer team continues its home stand by welcoming the Northwestern Wildcats to Jeffrey Field on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 7 p.m.

PENN STATE AGAINST NORTHWESTERN

  • Penn State leads the overall series with Northwestern, 25-8-4, and will meet Saturday for the 38th time in program history.
  • Last season, the Nittany Lions and Wildcats battled to a scoreless double-overtime draw in Evanston.

SCOUTING NORTHWESTERN

  • The Northwestern Wildcats are 5-6-1 overall and 1-2-1 in Big Ten conference play.
  • Their lone win in conference play came against defending national champion Maryland in the Big Ten opener on Sept. 20.
  • Bardia Kimiavi (3G, 2A) and Matt Moderwell (2G, 4A) lead the team with eight points.
  • In net, Miha Miskovic has played a majority of the minutes and holds a 1.60 goals against average and .673 save percentage.

LAST TIME OUT

  • Penn State lost its first game since the season opener on Sunday as it was bested by No. 8 Indiana, 3-1.
  • The Nittany Lions played with 10 men for almost the entirety of the game as Brandon Hackenberg was issued a red card in the 13th minute.
  • Indiana then scored three quick goals within an eight-minute span to take a 3-0 lead with 20 minutes to play in the first half.
  • Coming out of the break, senior captain Aaron Molloy took a shot that went just high before finding the right placement in the 54th minute to put the Nittany Lions on the scoreboard.
  • Liam Butts kicked the ball into the six and it was redirected out to Dax Hoffman who pushed it back to Molloy for the score.
  • Goalkeeper Josh Levine finished with a tied season-high seven saves.

BEST START SINCE 2014

  • Penn State is 5-2-2 through the midway point of the 2019 season, marking the best record through nine games since 2014, also the last time the Nittany Lions made it to the NCAA Tournament.

OCTOBER OVERLOAD

  • The Nittany Lions will play eight games in the month of October, including six within the friendly confines of Jeffrey Field.
  • Last October, Penn State went 4-2-1 in the month, including four-straight shutouts.

SAVED THE BEST FOR LAST

  • Senior teammates Christian Sload and Aaron Molloy are both having career-best seasons in their final year with the Blue and White.
  • Sload has two goals and four assists for eight points, including a five-game points streak in the month of September.
  • Molloy has a team-high four goals for eight points.
  • Sload's previous career season highs were a single goal in each of the last three seasons and four total points in 2017 and 2018 while Molloy had three goals in 2017.
