Bard Stays Under Par at Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate

JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. – A second-round 1-under 71 Saturday kept Penn State men's golf senior Alec Bard (New Hartford, N.Y.) under par with a 4-under 140 after two rounds at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate. Bard, tied for 19th overall, added four birdies to his scorecard to go along with four birdies and an eagle on Friday.
 
The Nittany Lions begin Sunday's final round at 9:15 a.m. on the 10th hole at the Blackthorn Club at The Ridges.
 
Six strokes separate the three teams in a pack from 10th to 12th with the Nittany Lions moving to 12th after a 2-over 290 Saturday. Host institution East Tennessee State fired a team total 269 (16-under) for a two-round total of 550 to take a two-stroke lead over Tennessee (273+279=552). Louisville moved down to third with an 8-under 280 for a two-round total of 554.
 
Senior Ryan Davis came in 1-over 73 Saturday and is tied for 41st overall with a 144 (71+73). In a tie for 49th, Lukas Clark (Holland, Pa.) had two birdies on his first nine and carded a 1-over 73 for a 146.
 
Trimming a stroke off his day-one total, freshman Brady Pevarnik (Latrobe, Pa.) is at 147 (74+73) and is in a tie for 55th. Junior James McHugh recovered some ground Saturday with a 2-over 74 and moved up to 83.
 
Freshman Ben Smith (Blain, Pa.), playing as an individual in his first collegiate tournament, went even on his first 11 holes and finished the day with a 6-over 78 for a tie for 79th.
 
Host institution East Tennessee State fired a team total 269 (16-under) for a two-round total of 550 to take a two-stroke lead over Tennessee (273+279=552). Louisville moved down to third with an 8-under 280 for a two-round total of 554.
 
ETSU received its boost in the team standings as Jack Rhea fired a 63 in Saturday's round to take over the top spot and Archie Davis soared 35 spots into a tie for fourth with a 7-under 65. Mississippi's Jackson Suber moved up 26 spots into a tie for second with Benjamin Shipp with his 65.
