Women's Swimming & Diving Lead Virginia Tech Going Into Day Two

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State women's swimming & diving team had its first of two days of competition in their double-dual meet against No. 24 Ohio State and Virginia Tech at home leading Virginia Tech, 89-78, and trailing Ohio State, 102-65, Saturday evening in McCoy Natatorium.

Top Swims
Junior Carly Hart stood her ground against high-ranked competition, winning the 200 breaststroke (2:14.30) for the second meet in a row, and has yet to lose the race this season.
 
Senior Maddie Hart had some great swims, placing second in the 100 backstroke (55.22) and third in the 200 butterfly (2:01.30). Another swimmer to place second was freshman Abbie Amdor with another great performance in the 100 freestyle (50.36). It was her fastest time in the event this season.
 
Two Nittany Lions got third place, including sophomore Marie Schobel in the 100 back (55.29), and freshman Margaret Markvardt in the 200 IM (2:05.00), who achieved her season best in the race.

Top Dives
On the boards, senior Christina Crowell got a personal best in the 3-meter dive with a score of 299.35.

Nittany Lion Relays
To open the meet, the women took first in the 200 medley relay (1:40.42) with their fastest time of the season and a McCoy Natatorium pool record. The winning team consisted of Schobel, Carly Hart, Maddie Hart, and Maddie Cooke. In their final race of the day, the women placed third in the 400 free relay (3:25.27). The team consisted of Amdor, Maddie Cooke, Elizabeth Gaspari, and Camryn Barry.

Next Up
Penn State will host Ohio State and Virginia Tech at home for their second day of competition on Saturday, November 2 in the McCoy Natatorium at 10 a.m. This will be their military appreciation meet and the team will wear red, white and blue suits in honor of current, former, and future military service members.
