Men’s Golf Signs Two to 2020 Class

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State men's golf coach Greg Nye announced the addition of two student-athletes to the class of 2020. James Allen and Jud Langille, have signed their National Letters of Intent to enroll at Penn State and compete for the men's golf program.

"We excited about what both Jud and James will bring to our program over the coming years," said Penn State men's golf coach Greg Nye. "These two talented, hard-working student-athletes will fit well within our team culture."

Allen turned in five-straight AJGA top-25 finishes during the summer of 2019 and qualified for the 2019 U.S. Junior Amateur. He took third place in the 78th New York State Boys Junior Amateur Championship in July 2019 and third in the 2019 MGA Carter Cup.

Named team captain for his senior season, Allen helped lead Scarsdale High School to three-straight team section championships and in the process, became the first three-time all-state selection from Scarsdale. The Raiders, under coach Andy Verboys, were undefeated during his junior season and Allen recorded a 0.45 scoring average in school matches and finished 10th in the state championship.

Allen posted back-to-back outstanding seasons as a freshman and sophomore. He finished second in the individual section championship as a freshman and placed 16th in the state championship. In his second year, his scoring average ranked third in Section I and he was 17th in the state championship.

"James learned the sport growing up in Austin, Texas, and his strengths are solid ball striking  and the ability to flight shots in windy conditions," Nye said. "Watching him compete at the U.S. Junior Championship, he showcased his skills, demonstrated resilience and competitiveness on that big stage -- all qualities we hold as keys to success in collegiate golf."

From Ossining, N.Y., Langille was a three-time captain and four-year letterwinner for coach Nick Dicioccio at Ossining High School. An all-state pick as a sophomore and junior, Langille won several titles in the last three years. He captured 2019 USGA Four-Ball medalist honors with an 8-under par 64 earlier this year and was the runner up in the 78th New York State Boys Junior Amateur Championship this past summer.

In 2018, Langille won three events as the Metropolitan Jr. PGA champion, Junior Boys PGA champion and Jr. PGA tournament qualifier, and USGA Jr. Amateur co-medalist. The latter earned him a spot in the U.S. Jr. Amateur tournament.

Langille's success in 2017 translated to four individual titles. He qualified for the MGA/Met Life Boys championship and then preceded to win four-straight matches, including the final match in 20 holes, to claim the trophy. He also claimed two victories at Bethpage, the first with a 2-under par total for the Metropolitan PGA Future Series championship, and then won the Future Series championship. He added the 2017 WGA Boys Championship trophy to his collection as well.

"Jud a multi-sport athlete who is relatively new to the game, but has made enormous strides over the last two years, as evidenced with his nearly winning the New York State Junior Championship this past summer," Nye commented. "We anticipate even more growth and quality finishes next year prior his stepping onto campus in the fall."
