UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The Penn State Nittany Lion men's fencing team concluded a successful weekend trip to Philadelphia, Pa. for the Temple Open.
The Nittany Lions got off to a hot start with all three epee fencers finishing in the Top 12. Sophomore Elias Cole (Chappaqua, N.Y.) lead the way tying for third place, followed closely by teammates Demetri Zacharakis(Houston, Texas) who finished seventh, and Tylen Butler (Charlotte, N.C.) who finished in 12th.
The foil team saw similar success as two fencers placed in the top eight. Sophomore Maximillian Lewicki (Hillsborough, N.J.) placed second. Making his NCAA collegiate debut as a Nittany Lion, sophomore Nicolas Prince (New York, N.Y.) placed sixth. Senior Felipe Rosario (Maplewood, N.J.) placed 17th in the event.
In the final event of the weekend, and also making his NCAA collegiate debut, freshman Ethan Mullennix (San Francisco, Calif.) took first in epee becoming the second Penn State's second champion of the weekend. Chase Pflueger (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) placed 13th, followed by Michal Wisniowski who placed 17th.
