Major League Soccer Release
NEW YORK – Penn State men's soccer student-athlete Aaron Molloy has been invited to participate in the 2019 adidas MLS College Showcase, which will take place from Dec. 13-15 in Raleigh, N.C., as announced by Major League Soccer Thursday afternoon.
The 2019 adidas MLS College Showcase will occur in conjunction with the 2019 NCAA Men's College Cup and is a closed-door scouting event officially sanctioned by the NCAA. The three-day event will give technical staffs from every MLS club an opportunity to scout the top collegiate prospects in the nation, including players with remaining NCAA eligibility.
The event will feature 40 top college players, ranging from freshmen to seniors, participating in a series of training sessions, testing, interviews, and match play. It allows MLS clubs to interact with potential SuperDraft selections earlier in their collegiate careers without jeopardizing players' collegiate eligibility.
Molloy, a senior midfielder from Dublin, Ireland, played in 50 career games for the Nittany Lions, totaling 36 points on 14 goals and eight assists. The team captain netted nine goals and added six assists for 24 points during the 2019 season, leading him toward a Big Ten Midfielder of the Year award as well as being named a semifinalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy.
Molloy is the first Penn State men's soccer student-athlete to be invited to the inaugural event. In years past, MLS has hosted a combined ahead of the SuperDraft, with the most recent Penn State participants being Connor Maloney and Robby Sagel in 2016.
Maloney and Sagel were both drafted that season while 12 other Nittany Lions have been drafted by MLS all-time.
The eligible player list for the 2020 MLS SuperDraft presented by adidas in January will be announced at a later date. See the full 2019 adidas MLS College Showcase invitee list here.
