ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Penn State women's basketball team struggled to find an offensive rhythm Tuesday afternoon as the Lady Lions fell 82-48 at Michigan in a New Year's Eve Big Ten battle.
Senior Siyeh Frazier and junior Kamaria McDaniel led Penn State with a game-high 16 points apiece.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The game was tied at 7-7 early on before Michigan put together a 16-2 run over a 5:34 span to pull in front 23-9. Freshman Makenna Marisa drained a three-pointer to end the quarter and pull PSU within 23-12.
- Penn State was within 27-18 after a Bexley Wallace jumper two minutes into the second quarter, but the Wolverine offense kept rolling as Michigan outscored PSU 14-7 the rest of the way to take a 41-25 lead at the half.
- Penn State scored four of the first five points of the second half, but Michigan rattled off a 16-1 streak to stretch its lead to 58-30 with 2:05 left on the third-quarter clock. McDaniel scored six points in the final 1:41 of the term to put the score at 60-36 through three.
- The fourth quarter was much of the same until freshman Anna Camden hit three-pointers on back-to-back Penn State possessions in the final minute, but it was too little, too late as Michigan earned the 82-48 win.
