Six Nittany Lions Selected to All-Star Contests

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Six Nittany Lion seniors earned spots in a total of three post-season all-star games. Dan Chisena played for the National Team in the Tropical Bowl in Daytona Beach, Florida Jan. 12 and was selected as the Overall MVP. John Reid will play for the East Team in the East-West Shrine Bowl in St. Petersburg, Florida Saturday, while Cam Brown and Robert Windsor will participate in the Reese's Senior Bowl Saturday, Jan. 25 in Mobile, Alabama. Jan Johnson will participate in the Hula Bowl Sunday, Jan. 26 at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu, Hawaii. Steven Gonzalez was also selected to the East-West Shrine game but will not be participating.
 
Reid will be in action live on NFL Network at 3 p.m. Saturday. Brown and Windsor will take the field in the Reese's Senior Bowl on the NFL Network, Saturday, Jan. 25 at 2:30 p.m. from Ladd-Peebles Stadium. The Hula Bowl takes place at 10:30 p.m. on CBS Sports Network.
 
Tropical Bowl Participant
Dan Chisena, WR, 6-3, 202, Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East

  • Selected as the Overall MVP of the Tropical Bowl with five catches for 155 yards and two touchdowns for the victorious National team.
  • Saw time in 12 games in 2019.
  • Posted four special teams tackles as a gunner and recovered one fumble as a senior.
  • Selected Academic All-Big Ten.
  • Earned the Ridge Riley Memorial Award, for sportsmanship, scholarship, leadership and friendship as a senior, along with Garrett Taylor, at the team's awards banquet.
  • Won the team's John Bruno Award as an outstanding member of special teams.
  • Earned the Nittany Lion Club Academic Achievement Award, along with Blake Gillikin, for having the highest senior GPA.
  • Hauled in a 40-yard grab in the first quarter for his first career reception at Maryland (9/27).
  • Recorded two tackles on punt coverage and was named the coaching staff's Special Teams Player of the Week vs. Michigan (10/19).
  • Made one tackle on punt coverage and recovered a fumble on a muffed punt in the third quarter at Michigan State (10/26).
  • Selected the coaching staff's Special Teams Player of the Week at Michigan State (10/26).

 
East-West Shrine Bowl Participants
 
Steven Gonzalez, OL, 6-4, 341, Union City, N.J./Union City

  • Second-team All-Big Ten choice by coaches and media.
  • Collects his second all-conference honor after being named honorable mention by the coaches and media in 2018.
  • Is the first Penn State offensive lineman to claim All-Big Ten first or second team honors since John Urschel (first team) in 2013.
  • Started 12 games at left guard.
  • Tabbed with the offensive line unit for the Joe Moore Award Midseason Honor Roll.
  • Named to the Pro Football Focus Big Ten Team of the Week first team following the Minnesota game (11/9).
  • Earned Pro Football Focus Big Ten Team of the Week first team honors following the Michigan game (10/19).
  • Selected to the Pro Football Focus Big Ten Team of the Week second team after the Maryland (9/27) game.
  • Named to the Pro Football Focus Big Ten Team of the Week second team following his performance vs. Pitt (9/14).
  • Helped the Penn State offense rank No. 15 in scoring offense (35.8), No. 33 in the FBS in passing yards per completion (13.26) and No. 21 in red zone offense (.904).
  • Led the way for the Nittany Lion offense to throw for 25 touchdowns.
  • Paved a path for Penn State to register four games with 500 or more yards of offense.

 
John Reid, CB, 5-10, 181, Mount Laurel, N.J./St. Joseph's Prep (Pa.)

  • All-Big Ten honorable mention selection by coaches and media.
  • Collects his third all-conference honor after being named honorable mention by the coaches and media in 2016 and 2018.
  • Had 37 tackles to go along with two interceptions as a senior.
  • Was tied for the team lead with eight pass breakups.
  • Selected to the Pro Football Focus Big Ten Team of the Week first team following the Michigan game (10/19).
  • Named to the Pro Football Focus Big Ten Team of the Week first team after his performance against Buffalo (9/7).
  • Picked off a pass in the third quarter and returned it 25 yards to setup a Penn State touchdown against Idaho (8/31).
  • Picked off a pass in the third quarter and returned it 36 yards for a touchdown, his first career pick-six against Buffalo (9/7).

 
Reese's Senior Bowl Participants
 
Cam Brown, LB, 6-5, 233, Burtonsville, Md./The Bullis School

  • All-Big Ten third team selection by the coaches and honorable mention choice by the media.
  • Ranked third on the team with a career-high 72 tackles as a senior.
  • Had four pass breakups, four quarterback hurries, two fumble recoveries and one forced fumble.
  • Registered 5.5 tackles for loss and 2.0 sacks.
  • Named to the Pro Football Focus Big Ten Team of the Week second team following the Michigan State game (10/26).
  • Matched a career high with 10 tackles and forced and recovered a fumble in the first quarter against Buffalo (9/7).
  • Collected seven tackles with 1.5 tackles for loss and a solo sack, against Pittsburgh (9/14).
  • Matched a career best with 10 tackles to go along with two QB hurries against Michigan (10/19).
  • Tallied six tackles, including one for loss, and had a pass breakup and QB hurry at Michigan State (10/26).
  • Collected six tackles, including one tackle for loss, at Minnesota (11/9).
  • Secured six tackles, including five solo, against Indiana (11/16).
  • Recorded six tackles and recovered a fumble in the first quarter at Ohio State (11/23).
  • Recorded seven tackles, including 1.5 tackles for loss, against Rutgers (11/30).

 
Robert Windsor, DT, 6-4, 285, Fond du Lac, Wis./Fond du Lac

  • Third-team All-Big Ten selection by the coaches and honorable mention choice by the media.
  • Earns second career all-conference nod after an appearance on the media's third team and coaches' honorable mention squad last season.
  • Recorded 40 tackles, 5.0 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks as a senior.
  • Had eight quarterback hurries.
  • Selected for the Pro Football Focus Big Ten Team of the Week first team following the Michigan State game (10/26).
  • Named to the Pro Football Focus National and Big Ten Team of the Week first team following the Iowa game (10/12).
  • Tabbed to the Pro Football Focus Big Ten Team of the Week second team following the Purdue game (10/5).
  • Selected for the Pro Football Focus Big Ten Team of the Week first team after his performance vs. Buffalo (9/7).

  • Ranked fifth on the team with 64 tackles.
  • Had 4.5 tackles for loss, two pass breakups, one forced fumble, two fumble recoveries and three quarterback hurries.
  • Selected as a Pro Football Focus honorable-mention All-American.
  • Named a semifinalist for the Burlsworth Trophy.
  • Selected as a Pro Football Focus Midseason All-American honorable mention.
  • Tabbed Pro Football Focus Big Ten Team of the Week second team following the Michigan State game (10/26).
  • Named to the Pro Football Focus National and Big Ten Team of the Week first team following his performance vs. Pitt (9/14).
