Penn State Travels To Wisconsin Saturday

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State women's basketball team hits the road again Saturday to face Wisconsin at 4 p.m. ET/3 p.m. CT. The game will be broadcast nationally on the Big Ten Network.

OPENING TIPS

  • Penn State hits the road for its second-straight game Saturday afternoon when the Lady Lions travel to Wisconsin to face the Badgers on the Big Ten Network.
  • Penn State is 6-7 overall and will be looking for its first win of conference play on Saturday. Three of Penn State's wins this season have come over 2019 NCAA Tournament teams.
  • Junior Kamaria McDaniel is the Big Ten's third-leading scorer with 18.8 points per game. Senior Siyeh Frazier (12.8 ppg) and freshman Makenna Marisa (10.0 ppg) are also averaging double-digit points.

  • Penn State would earn its first Big Ten victory of the season and move to 7-7 overall.
  • The Lady Lions would beat Wisconsin for the fifth time in the last six meetings.  
  • Penn State would move to 34-15 all-time against the Badgers and 13-10 when playing in Madison, Wis. 

 
SCOUTING WISCONSIN

  • Wisconsin enters Saturday's contest with an 8-5 overall record and 0-2 mark in conference play.
  • The Badgers' two Big Ten losses came against Rutgers (64-61) on Dec. 28 and at Purdue (72-61) on Dec. 31.
  • The Badgers average 65.8 points per game and are shooting 41.3 percent from the field, 30.4 percent from three-point range, and 66.1 percent from the free throw line.
  • Imani Lewis leads Wisconsin with team-best marks of 13.6 points per game and 8.1 rebounds per contest.
  • Abby Laszewski follows with 11.9 points and 6.8 rebounds per contest, while Sydney Hillard is also averaging double-digit points with 10.0 per game.

 
AGAINST THE BADGERS

  • Penn State has won four of the last five meetings with Wisconsin. The Lady Lions swept last year's regular-season series before falling to the Badgers in the Big Ten Tournament.
  • The Lady Lions beat the Badgers 71-64 on Jan. 3 in Happy Valley before picking up a 65-59 road victory on Jan. 24 in Madison, Wisc. to complete the season sweep of Wisconsin in 2019. It marked Penn State's first season sweep of the Badgers since the 2011-12 season.
  • Wisconsin earned a 65-57 win in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament in the most recent meeting between the two teams on March 6, 2019. Kamaria McDaniel led Penn State with a team-best 16 points.

 
KAMARIA McBUCKETS

  • Junior Kamaria McDaniel is the Big Ten's third-leading scorer and averaging 18.8 points per game. That marks ranks 32nd in all of Division I as of Jan. 2.
  • The Inkster, Mich. native has tallied four 20-plus point efforts this season and has scored in double figures in 12 of Penn State's 13 games.
  • She dropped the third 40-point game in program history against Pittsburgh on Dec. 5 and put up a 31-point performance against Minnesota in the Big Ten opener on Dec. 28.
  • McDaniel has transformed into the team's go-to scorer after averaging 9.7 points per game a season ago as a sophomore.

 
SIYEH STUFFING THE STAT SHEET

  • Senior Siyeh Frazier has proven she can do it all this season, as the Detroit native is averaging 12.8 points per game in addition to a team-best 6.8 rebounds per contest.
  • Frazier also leads the team with 36 steals and ranks second with 35 assists.
  • The guard has notched nine double-digit scoring games while leading the team in scoring in seven contests.
  • Frazier put together a career night against Minnesota in Saturday's Big Ten opener as she tallied a career-best 21 points to go along with nine rebounds.


FINDING THE FREE THROW LINE

  • Penn State leads the Big Ten and ranks nine nationally in free throws made (211) and 11th in free throws attempted (294) as of Jan. 2.
  • Kamaria McDaniel has found her way to the free throw line the most, attempting a team-best 85 freebies. Her 85 free throw attempts rank 12th in the nation. Freshman Makenna Marisa is shooting a team-best 82.5 percent (33-for-40) from the charity stripe.
