UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State women's swimming & diving team won its home finale against Villanova, 167.5-93.5, sending the squad's seniors out on a winning note Friday in their final meet in McCoy Natatorium.
It was the team's sixth dual meet win of the season and final home meet for the three competing seniors.
Abbie Amdor, Marie Schobel, Brooke Matthias and senior Christian Crowell won two events each to lead the Nittany Lions.
Top Swims
Amdor had two event wins in the meet, swimming for first in the 200 free (1:50.51) for the third time this season, and she was narrowly followed by Barry in second (1:50.76). Amdor also won the 100 free with a time of 51.34.
Camryn Barry also finished first in the 500 free with a time of 4:57.86.
Schobel and senior Maddie Hart earned a first and second sweep in both the 100 and 200 back. Schobel won the 100 back with a B-Cut time of 53.73, and Maddie Hart came in second (55.13). In the 200 back, Schobel swam a winning time of 1:58.63, with Hart following her in second (2:00.37).
Matthias swam for two wins during the meet, winning the 200 fly with a time of 2:03.17 and the 100 fly at 56.00.
Maddie Cooke swam her second-fastest career time in the 50 free, winning the race with a pool record time of 22.64. She also placed second in the 100 fly (56.08).
In another 1-2 finish, Carly Hart touched first in the 100 breast (1:02.11) and Olivia Jack placed second (1:03.38).
Additionally, sophomore Madison Murtagh placed second in the 1000 free with a time of 10:20.68 for her fourth top-three finish in the event this year.
Top Dives
On the boards, the Nittany Lion women swept the top-three spots in the 3-meter and earned first and second in the 1-meter. Crowell won the 1-meter (282.15) by a margin of 24 points and the 3-meter (276.45) dive by a margin of eight. Sierra Shurts finished the meet with two second-place scores: 268.80 in the 3-meter and 258.15 in the 1-meter, and Wei Wei closed out the sweep with a third-place finish in the 3-meter 262.05.
Nittany Lion Relays
To open Senior Day, the women took first and second in the 200 medley relay. The winning team of Schobel, Carly Hart, Maddie Hart and Cooke swam for a pool record with a time of 1:38.19, only a second behind an NCAA B-Cut time for the event. The second-place 200 medley team of Matthias, Jack, Madison Ledwith and Elizabeth Gaspari trailed behind at 1:44.37.
The final event of the meet was the 400 free relay, and the women swam for another relay win. The winning team of Cooke, Kate Sheridan, Gaspari, and Jack swam a 3:27.08 relay .
