ROSEMONT, Ill. – Penn State senior forward Lamar Stevens has been named Big Ten Player of the Week as announced by the league Monday, Feb. 10. Stevens' standout performances led the Nittany Lions to wins over No. 16 Michigan State and Minnesota last week.
From Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the preseason All-Big Ten selection averaged 28.5 points, seven rebounds and three assists in the Nittany Lions' two wins. Stevens' production included a career-high 33 points in Penn State's 83-77 over Minnesota on Saturday, Feb. 8. It was Stevens
The Nittany Lions captured their sixth-straight conference win behind Stevens' career high, which included 16 second-half points to hold off a late game surge by the Golden Gophers.
Stevens' impressive play was on display in the Nittany Lions' road win over #16 Michigan State on Tuesday, Feb. 4. Scoring 24 points and grabbing seven rebounds, Stevens led the Nittany Lions to their second win in 25 tries in East Lansing.
Stevens has now amassed 2,064 points in his career, good for third all-time in program history. He is one of just three active players to have scored over 2,000 points and grabbed 800 rebounds in NCAA Division I.
National organizations have recognized Stevens status as one of the nation's top players. He collected Luke Olson National Player of the Week and Citizen Watch Naismith Trophy Player of the Week honors on Monday and was recently included on the Wooden Award Late Season Top 20 list and as finalist for the Senior CLASS award.
