Men’s Tennis Stays Undefeated at Home After Doubleheader Win

University Park, Pa. – After its second doubleheader in a row, Penn State men's tennis improved to 5-2 after defeating St. Bonaventure, 5-0 and Saint Francis, 5-1. 

The Bonnies now sit with a 1-6 record while the Red Flash are 0-6.

The Nittany Lions are now 5-0 at home this season.

"I thought we came out and played very well," said head coach Jeff Zinn. "We played well against St. Bonaventure in doubles and then we quickly jumped on them in singles. Then we kept it up against Saint Francis. It's nice to get two wins and beat regional opponents."

ST. BONAVENTURE 

Penn State shutout the Bonnies, 5-0, with two singles matches going unfinished. 

The Nittany Lions started out strong, dominating in doubles competition before solidifying the victory with strong singles play.  

DOUBLES 

Alp Sentay and Gabriel Nemeth clinched the doubles point on court one for the Nittany Lions, defeating Lukas Malmberg and Marco Rivolo, 6-2. The pair now owns a 4-2 overall record in addition to a 1-0 record at the top lineup spot. 

Christian Lakoseljac and Charl Morgan played together for the first time this season and got the dominant win on court two over John Rutkowski and Joseph Blakeley, 6-1.

SINGLES

Penn State quickly put the match away in singles, winning all three matches in the top of the lineup. 

Lakoseljac, Morgan and Nemeth all won their respective matches in two-sets to clinch the first match win of the day for the Blue and White. 

On court one, Lakoseljac earned a shutout win over Lukas Malmberg, 6-0, 6-0 to improve to 2-2 on the season. 

SAINT FRANCIS  

The Nittany Lions won the first four singles matches to secure their second match win of the day. 

The Red Flash's only point came from a Penn State default on court six.

DOUBLES 

Penn State clinched its fourth straight doubles point of the season against the Red Flash. 

Lakoseljac and Morgan got their second win of the day together, defeating Sebastian Pinos/Daniel Vinces, 6-1. 

Noah Sutter and Chikaya Sato clinched the match win on court three, with a strong 6-1 victory over Jordi Garcia/Samuel Ghigarelli, 6-1. 

SINGLES 

Morgan, Sato, Kuhnle and Sutter all won their respective singles matches to get the victory.

Sutter was the one to clinch the win over the Red Flash on court four, defeating Jordi Garcia in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3. The senior is now 2-0 in singles this season.

UP NEXT

The Nittany Lions will welcome Liberty on Friday, Feb. 21 in addition to Penn and Bucknell Sunday, Feb. 23 for their third and final doubleheader of the season. Penn State will take on Liberty at 6 p.m., Penn at noon and Bucknell at 6 p.m. 

All matches will take place at the Indoor Tennis Center.
