Doubles Lift Men’s Tennis Past Buffalo and Mount St. Mary’s

University Park, Pa.  – Penn State men's tennis (3-2) swept all six doubles matches against Buffalo (2-3) and Mount St. Mary's (1-3) to help the team clinch two match wins during Saturday's doubleheader at the Indoor Tennis Center.

The Blue and White defeated the Bulls, 6-1, and shutout The Mount, 7-0.

The team is now 3-0 at home, three matches into their seven-match homestand.

"I thought we played really well against Buffalo," head coach Jeff Zinn said. "Doubles and singles were good. We jumped on them and got out to 4-0 pretty quick. Our match against Mount St. Mary's was exactly what we wanted. We got some guys that work really hard, some time on the court. This is their time to shine. Today accomplished what we wanted."

"We have been focusing a lot on doubles during practice and we are starting to see that come together," associate head coach Paul Tobin said. "In singles, we took care of business. We just have to keep building confidence through winning."

BUFFALO

Penn State dominated Buffalo in the first match of the day. The team swept doubles before winning five of six singles matches to secure the match victory.

DOUBLES

The Nittany Lions claimed all three doubles matches to claim the first point of the match.

The freshman duo of Ismail Saadi and Charl Morgan earned their first win of the spring season together, defeating Vilhelm Fridell and D Giritharan, 6-4, on court three. The pair went 0-2 together in the fall.

SINGLES

The Blue and White cruised through singles with two-set wins on three courts.

However, Chikaya Sato and Alp Sentay respectively battled on courts five and six in third-set tiebreaks. Both emerged victorious, helping the Nittany Lions to hand the Bulls their third loss of the season.

Sentay remains undefeated this spring with two wins after defeating Simon Wibler of Buffalo, 5-7, 6-2, 1-0 (10-5).

MOUNT ST. MARY'S

Penn State came out on top against Mount St. Mary's in the first meeting between the two teams.

DOUBLES

The Nittany Lions easily handled doubles, allowing no more than three points in all three matches.

The No. 29-ranked duo of Christian Lakoseljac and Christos Antonopoulos continued their success, defeating Jackson Wood/Gabriel Santos (MSM) 6-3. The pair now has an overall record of 5-0 at the top spot in the lineup.

SINGLES

Three Nittany Lions picked up their first wins of the season, including Chris Kuhnle on court two, Noah Sutter on court four, Andrei Paduraru on the fifth court.

Saadi battled on court one for his first win of the season in dramatic fashion, pushing Jackson Wood into two tiebreak sets to get the win, 6-7 (4), 7-5, 7-6 (6).

UP NEXT

The Nittany Lions will welcome Saint Francis to Happy Valley on Sunday, February 16 for a 3 p.m. match at the Indoor Tennis Center.
