Cardile Named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Senior Nick Cardile was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday, earning the award after helping No. 2 Penn State post an 18-17 overtime win at then-No. 6 Penn on Saturday.

Cardile scored his second goal of the season and added one ground ball and one caused turnover against the Quakers. His goal tied the game at 11-all with 13:36 left in regulation.

For the season, Cardile has seven ground balls and eight caused turnovers. He is the anchor of a defensive unit that has the second-best goals against average (10.36) in the Big Ten.

Cardile has earned three Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week awards during his career, including two last season.

Penn State (4-1) will play its third-straight top-10 opponent when it takes on No. 7 Cornell on Sunday at 4 p.m. The game, which is a part of the Crown Lacrosse Classic, will be played at William Amos High School in Cornelius, North Carolina. The game will stream on the Lax Sports Network.
