Women's Golf Finishes 10th at Hurricane Invitational

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The Penn State Nittany Lions bounced back from a difficult opening day firing the sixth lowest round on Tuesday with a 10-over, 298, during the final round of the Hurricane Invitational at the Biltmore Golf Course in South Florida.

Although they scored better, the Nittany Lions were unable to move up the leaderboard finishing the tournament in tenth position.

"I am extremely proud of our bounce back today," commented head coach Denise St. Pierre. "I hope this carries over into the weekend at the Lady Gator Invitational. We certainly got a bit of our groove back today."

Maryland used the low-round of the tournament to erase a nine-hole deficit and capture the championship with a 7-over, 281, on the final day finishing the tournament at 10-over (874). TCU and No. 9 Arizona each finished six shots back at 16-over (880) while No. 50 Michigan came in fourth at 27-over (891). No. 28 Oklahoma was the biggest mover of the day using a 5-under (283) round to climb four spots and finished tied for fifth with No. 30 Illinois at 30-over (894).

Playing as an individual in just her second collegiate tournament, freshman Isha Dhruva (Katy, Texas) carded the lowest round of her young career with an even-par, 72, matching five bogeys with five birdies including 3-of-4 par 5's. She shot identical even-par, 36, on each nine during her final round finishing the day tied for 31st at 12-over (228) for the tournament.

"I took advantage of the par 5's today and just focused on hitting greens throughout the round which helped my score a lot," mentioned Dhruva.

Senior Megan McLean (Lebanon, N.J.) also had a bounce-back even-par round of 72 firing a trio of birdies to go with one eagle closing out the tournament tied for 27th at 11-over (227). Freshman Mathilde Delavallade (Royan, France) joined McLean in 27th position following a 2-over, 74, on the final day while sophomore Sarah Willis (Eaton, Ohio), senior Maddy Herr (New Hope, Pa.) and junior Olivia Zambruno (Mt. Pleasant, Pa.) rounded out the team scores for the day at 6-over, 5-over and 3-over, respectively.

Penn State heads home for a few days before returning to the Sunshine State for the Lady Gator Invitational on Saturday and Sunday.
