Parshall Tabbed as Big Ten Pitcher of the Week

Big Ten Release

ROSEMONT, Ill. – Penn State softball sophomore Bailey Parshall was tabbed as the Big Ten Pitcher of the Week for a stellar performance in the circle at the Clearwater Spring Break Invitational, as announced by the Big Ten Conference office Monday afternoon.

The left-handed pitcher from Belle Vernon, Pa., threw three complete-game shutouts over the weekend in the Clearwater Spring Break Invitational, leading Penn State to wins over Yale, Robert Morris and Western Michigan.

Parshall struck out double-digit batters in all three appearances, including a season-high 14 against Yale on Friday, March 6.

The sophomore has already totaled 117 strikeouts this season and just surpassed the 300-career strikeout mark with 301 to move into eighth all-time in the Penn State record books for career strikeouts.

Parshall did not give a run up in 19.0 innings pitched, and only allowed eight total hits and three total walks in the three games combined. She picked up three wins in the circle to move to 7-5 on the year.

Parshall earns her first career Big Ten weekly award and the first for a Nittany Lion since 2016 when Marlaina Laubach was also named Big Ten Pitcher of the Week (4/4/2016).

Parshall and the Nittany Lions start the second half of their spring break trip with a midweek contest at South Florida on Wednesday, March 11 at 6:30 p.m. in Tampa, Fla.
