Freshman McLane Selected in Seventh Round of 2020 NHL Draft

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Freshman Chase McLane (Trenton, Mich.) became the 13th Nittany Lion in program history to be drafted by an NHL squad when he was selected in the seventh round, 209th overall, by the Nashville Predators on Wednesday evening.

McLane, a 6-2 center, will begin his career at Penn State this fall after spending the 2019-20 season with the Tri-City Storm of the United States Hockey League (USHL). After beginning the season with an injury, he finished the year with 16 points (5G, 11A) in 18 games while serving as one of two team captains for the Storm upon his return to the lineup.

In 106 total USHL games over the past three seasons, all with Tri-City, McLane scored 13 goals while adding 37 assists for 50 total points and served as an alternate captain during the 2018-19 season.

McLane joins current Nittany Lion draft picks Aarne Talvitie (2017 – 160th – New Jersey), Clayton Phillips (2017 – 93rd – Pittsburgh) and Kevin Wall (2019 – 181st – Carolina) giving Penn State four draft picks on the 2020-21 roster.
