Women's Swimming & Diving Compete in Blue and White Meet

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State women's swimming & diving team had its first competition of the season Friday afternoon in McCoy Natatorium for this year's modified version of the "Blue and White" meet. The team was split into two teams, blue and white, and the meet was unscored.
 

Top Swims

Senior Carly Hart swam an impressive early season time of 1:02.57 in her 100 breast win for the blue team, and in second with the white team was Olivia Jack, who swam 1:04.13. Hart also won the 200 breast with a time of 2:18.00 and the 200 IM (2:05.71).

Junior Madison Murtagh won the 1000 for the white team with a time of 10:18.57 for the white team. She also swam second in the 500 free (5:07.99).

Standout freshman Cat Stanford won the 100 free with a time of 51.83 and placed second in the 50 free (23.87).

In the 200 free, senior Elizabeth Gaspari won with a time of 1:53.42 for the white team. In close second was junior Sadie Schumann for the blue team (1:53.86). Gaspari also came in second in the 100 free (52.00).

Sophomore Ellie Tiskus swam 23.65 in the 50 free, just under a tenth of a second away from PRing, to bring the blue team another victory.

Emma Harvey swam 56.82 in the 100 back for a first place finish for the white team, and Margaret Markvardt of the blue team finished in second (57.53).

In the 200 fly, the white team swept first and second with Morgan Rinn (2:03.94) and Brooke Matthias (2:04.54).

Blue team's Shannon Meadway surprised with a first place finish and 2:02.33 time in the 200 back, closely followed by white team senior IMer and backstroker Stephanie Szekely (2:03.64).

Senior Camryn Barry impressed in the 500 free with a first place finish (5:03.00) for the blue team.

In the 100 fly, Abbie Amdor took first (58.86) for the white team.

Nittany Lion Relays

To open the "Blue and White" meet, the 200 medley relay team of Harvey, Jack, Matthias, and Stanford had the fastest time of the meet and earned points for the blue team. 

In the 200 free relay, Gaspari, Stanford, Amdor, and freshman Abby Henderson won (1:36.47) for the white team.

Next Up

Penn State will host another virtual inter-squad meet tomorrow starting at 8 a.m. where the men will compete against one another in a Blue & White competition.
