Men’s Soccer Names 2020-21 Team Captains

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Redshirt seniors Pierre Reedy and Brandon Hackenberg have been named Penn State men's soccer's team captains for the 2020-21 season, as selected by their teammates and announced by head coach Jeff Cook Wednesday.

"It is a pleasure to announce Pierre Reedy and Brandon Hackenberg as our team captains for the upcoming 2021 season," said Cook. "This fall has been immensely challenging for all of us, but it has presented an opportunity for the outstanding character of our student-athletes to shine through. Throughout their time as Nittany Lions, both Pierre and Brandon have led from the front and have been inspirational examples to all of us as we navigate these unprecedented times. I look forward to their contributions this spring, and to continuing our quest to compete for Big Ten and NCAA championships."

Reedy looks to take the field with the Nittany Lions in spring 2021 as a team captain for the second-straight season. He earned Big Ten preseason honors in 2019 and totaled four assists, including one multi-assist game. Reedy is a three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree. He completed his degree in security and risk analysis in May 2019 and is currently working on a MBA.

"It's an honor to be named as a captain again this year on a team filled with such great guys," said Reedy. "There's no doubt that with the talent we have on this team we expect to compete for championships, and we can't wait to get started."

Hackenberg enters his first year of leadership as a team captain in 2020-21. He had a breakout season in 2019, earning first-team All-Big Ten honors and United Soccer Coaches third-team All-North Region honors. Hackenberg has contributed to 12 shutouts on the backline for the Nittany Lions and was considered a top-100 upperclassman (No. 65) by Top Drawer Soccer at the end of the 2019 season. He is a three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree and a two-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar.

"I'm honored the guys voted me as captain this year," said Hackenberg. "It is something that means a lot to me and I will take pride in. I know myself and the rest of the guys are looking forward to playing soon. I'm excited to help play a part in leading the group with Pierre and getting the best out of us."
