Ten Lions Score in 22-7 Win at Furman

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Ten players scored for No. 7 Penn State men's lacrosse in a 22-7 win over Furman in a non-conference game Tuesday night at Paladin Stadium. Joe White and TJ Malone led the way with six points apiece as the Nittany Lions improved to 5-2. Furman dropped to 1-6 with its third-straight loss to a nationally-ranked opponent.

White, a junior, entered the game with three career goals. He has more than double that now after scoring four in addition to two assists against the Paladins. Malone had a hat trick in the first quarter alone on his way to five goals and one assist.

Two players scored their first career goal. Mike Shinske put Penn State up 20-6 early in the fourth quarter, and Jackson Reynolds scored midway through the quarter to make it 22-6. Reynolds's goal was one for the highlight reel as he shot while diving from behind the crease.

Penn State wasted no time in taking control of the midweek game, jumping out to a 7-0 lead after one quarter. In addition to Malone's first-quarter hat trick, Mac O'Keefe, Grant Ament, White and Jack Traynor scored once apiece.

Furman came alive in the second quarter, scoring the first two goals, but Penn State responded with a 6-0 run with six goal scorers – Ament, Traynor, O'Keefe, White, Malone and Hill. That put the Lions up 13-2 and the lead remained double-digits for the rest of the game.

Ament finished with five points on two goals and three assists, while O'Keefe tallied three goals and one assist. Foulds also had a four-point night with two goals and two assists. Reaume and Jackson each added an assist to their one goal, Traynor scored twice, and Hill had one goal.

Four goalies saw time for the Lions. Colby Kneese posted his fifth win of the season while stopping six of the 12 shots he faced. Aleric Fyock was perfect with four saves on four chances, Dylan Sulzbach made two saves, and Teddy Darcey turned away the only shot he faced while making his collegiate debut.

Penn State won 22-of-32 faceoffs, including a dominant 17-for-21 day by Gerard Arceri. The senior led all players with 19 ground balls.

Defensively, the Lions had 10 caused turnovers, led by Tommy Wright with two. The senior captain added three ground balls.

The 22 goals were Penn State's most since scoring 25 in a win over UMBC in an NCAA Quarterfinal game last season. It's the Lions fifth time scoring 20-plus goals dating back to the beginning of last season.

Penn State has 11 days until its next game when it hosts Lehigh at Panzer Stadium on Saturday, March 21, at 1 p.m. The Mountain Hawks have won four-straight games to improve to 5-1 and are ranked 19th in the USILA Coaches Poll.
