Oskar Autio Named B1G Third Star of the Week

ROSEMONT, Ill. – Junior goaltender Oskar Autio (Espoo, Finland) was named the Big Ten Third Star of the Week after registering his third career shutout during the series opener at Michigan State on Sunday afternoon.

This marks the first career weekly award for Autio as he becomes the second Nittany Lion to be honored so far this season joining senior Alex Limoges (Winchester, Va.) who received Second Star recognition on December 15, 2020.

Autio secured his first shutout of the season and his first-ever against a Big Ten foe and in the process moved into a tie with Matthew Skoff '16 for second on the career shutouts list at Penn State just one behind Peyton Jones '20 for the top spot.

After a slow opening month of the season, Autio has now won three-straight contests and has posted a .922 save percentage and a 2.23 goals-against average since the calendar turned to December ranking fourth in the Big Ten in each category during that stretch.

Autio and the Nittany Lions return to the ice on Friday and Saturday evening with games against the Ohio State Buckeyes at 5:30 p.m. each night.
