Women's Swimming Places High in 200 Medley on Big Ten Championships Day One

MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA –  Penn State women's swimming achieved two season bests to begin the 2021 Big Ten Championships in the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center at the University of Minnesota on Tuesday evening.

The Nittany Lions swam their fastest 200 medley relay and fastest 800 freestyle relay of the season. The 200 medley relay finish is the highest for the women's team since 2016.

The women's team finished the day ranked fifth in the team standings with 96 points. They are three places higher than last year's first night's results.

Penn State began the evening with a fourth-place swim in the 200 medley (1:38.14) with a team of Marie Schobel, Carly Hart, Margaret Markvardt and Maddie Cooke. Last year, the team placed fifth in the same race.

In the 800 free relay, Camryn Barry, Abbie Amdor, Sadie Schumann and Elizabeth Gaspari recorded a 7:15.69 for eighth place

The women will continue competition on Wednesday with prelims beginning at 12 p.m. ET/11 a.m. ET and finals starting at 7:30 p.m. ET/6:30 p.m. CT. All sessions will be streamed live via BTN Plus with live stats available on Sidearm and Meet Mobile.
