Women's Swimming & Diving Win Against Michigan State

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Penn State Women's Swimming & Diving team concluded their regular season with a win over Michigan State, topping the Spartans 120 - 50 Saturday afternoon at McCoy Natatorium. 
 
Top Swims
Senior Stephanie Szekely had an impressive performance winning the 400 IM (4:18.80) and placing second in both the 200 back (1:59.62) and 200 IM (2:03.43). 
 
In the backstroke, junior Marie Schobel took home two wins for the Nittany Lions in the 100 back (52.95) and 200 back (1:58.55). 
 
Senior Elizabeth Gaspari had a successful meet, securing a win in both the 50 free (23.26) and 100 free (50.27). She was just over .10 seconds off her personal-best in both events. 
 
Seniors Carly Hart and Maddie Cooke both won an event for Penn State. Hart in the 50 breast (28.19) and Cooke in the 100 breast with her career-best time of 1:00.19. 
 
Sophomore Margaret Markvardt finished the day with a win in the 200 IM (2:02.54) and a second-place swim in the 100 back (55.66).
 
Freshmen Ellie Brandbergh swam a personal-best in the 50 fly (25.79). Freshman Catherine Stanford also finished second in the 50 free (23.33).
 
Junior Madison Ledwith had two event wins in the 50 fly (24.99) and 100 fly (55.26.) 
 
Sophomore Emma Harvey earned a win in the 50 back with a time of 25.75. She also secured second in the 100 fly with a career-best swim (55.32).
 
Newcomer Morgan Rinn swam her season-best in the 200 fly to win the event (2:02.74). 
 
In the 200 breast, sophomore Devon Forker earned a personal-best (2:17.59) that was good for first-place. She was followed closely by freshman Kylie Rydland who swam for third (2:19.88).
 
Leading the Nittany Lions in the 200 free was junior Sadie Schumann who swam a personal-best in the event (1:48.83). She was followed by sophomore Abbie Amdor who swam for third (1:50.86). 
 
Junior breaststroker Olivia Jack ended the meet with two top-3 finishes, swimming for second in the 50 breast (28.33) and third in the 100 breast (1:02.35). 

Nittany Lion Relays
The Nittany Lions opened the meet with a win in the 400 medley relay. The team composed of Schobel, Hart, Brooke Matthias, and Cooke won it for Penn State with a time of 3:38.66.
The 200 free relay team of Cooke, Jack, Gaspari, and Cat Stanford won the event with a time of 1:32.12 to close out the meet.

Top Dives
Sophomore Wei Wei impressed with an NCAA Zone C cut score in the 3-meter (289.65) and tied for second with senior Kamryn Umbel in the 1-meter (260.18).
 
Junior Jonah Cey had a second-place finish in the 1-meter 295.95. 
 
Next Up
The women's swim team will head to Minneapolis, Minn. to compete in the 2021 Big Ten Championships from Tuesday, Feb. 23 - Saturday, Feb. 27.
 
The men's and women's diving team will compete in their Big Ten Championships from Wednesday, Feb. 24 - Saturday, Feb. 27 in West Lafayette, Ind.
