Bothun Selected As Top Three Candidate For WHCA Goalie of the Year Award

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pennsylvania – Penn State goaltender Josie Bothun was announced as one of the three final candidates for the first-ever Women's Hockey Goalie of the Year award presented by the Women's Hockey Commissioners Association Thursday afternoon, March 11.

Bothun joins Northeastern's Aerin Frankel and Maine's Loryn Porter as a finalist and is the lone underclassman in the group with the others being seniors. The WHCA's full release can be viewed here.

The Wyoming, Minnesota native had a spectacular freshman season for the Nittany Lions and was a key part in securing Penn State's first-ever CHA regular season championship.

Bothun ranks seconds in the NCAA in goals-against average at 1.44, wins with 16, and minutes played at 1,254. She shattered several Penn State single-season records for the year, including setting the new single-season wins high for Penn State goaltenders despite playing in a shortened 2020-21 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The winner will be announced on Wednesday, March 17, the day before next week's NCAA semifinal games are played.
