UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State Nittany Lion field hockey player Bree Bednarski (Wyoming, Pa.) has been named the Big Ten Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending March 16, 2021. Bednarski's honor is the first of the season for head coach Char Morett-Curtiss' Nittany Lions.
Bednarski tallied points in each of Penn State's home games against Maryland this weekend at the Penn State Field Hockey Complex. Bednarski assisted on Penn State's first goal Friday, taking the penalty corner that led to an Anna Simon goal in the team's 3-0 shutout victory over the Terrapins.
Two days later, Bednarski kept Penn State in contention in a tough 3-2 loss to Maryland. Bednarski had a goal and an assist in the game. She leads Penn State in scoring this year with six points off two goals and two assists and has a .500 shot percentage.
Penn State is now 2-3 overall, 2-1 the conference standings. The team visits Michigan State next weekend for two games. The Nittany Lions and Spartans battle on Friday, March 19, at 3 p.m. and again on Sunday, March 21, at 12 p.m.
