SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Penn State men's ice hockey senior captain Alex Limoges (Winchester, Va.) inked a professional tryout (PTO) with the San Diego Gulls of the American Hockey League on Thursday afternoon. The Gulls are the AHL affiliate of the Anaheim Ducks.
"Limo graduates from Penn State with multiple single-season records, yet everyone associated with our program over the past four years would say he is a better person than he is a player," mentioned head coach Guy Gadowsky. "We have been extremely fortunate to have some of the finest men associated with our hockey program and Limo is in the very top tier."
The Winchester, Virginia native was named an All-Big Ten selection for the second time in his career last week earning his second-consecutive honorable mention selection.
Limoges, a finalist for the 2021 Senior CLASS Award, led Penn State in each offensive category this past season with ten goals and 12 assists for 22 points. With the fewest number of games played in the Big Ten, the senior's point-per-game numbers this season ranked tied for seventh in the conference while his 10 goals overall were tied for ninth and his 0.45 goals per game ranked sixth.
Limoges registered a pair of multi-point efforts for Penn State in the 2021 Big Ten Tournament with a pair of primary assists, including one on the game-winning goal, during a 6-3 victory against Notre Dame before having a hand in all three Nittany Lion goals during an overtime loss to No. 5 and top-seeded Wisconsin in the semifinal.
Limoges scored Penn State's opening goal of the game against the Badgers while assisting on two others and in the process overtook former teammate Liam Folkes '20 for the all-time Big Ten Tournament scoring record as he now has 17 career points (7G, 10A) in just 10 tournament games. His seven goals are also the second-most in tournament history behind the eight from Folkes.
Limoges will graduate this spring and finish his Penn State career as the Nittany Lion all-time leader in points per game as he averaged 0.98 over his 128 games played. He also ranks third on the all-time points list with 125 while his 51 goals are tied for the third most all-time at Penn State and his 74 assists rank fourth all-time.
"As simply as I can put it, Penn State is home," mentioned Limoges. "The people I met here and the connections I made will have a lasting impact on my life. The unrivaled support and second to none resources allowed me to grow as a person and a player. It led me to achievements I couldn't have imagined and ultimately to my goal of signing a pro contract. Thank you will never do justice to how grateful I am."
