Men's Lacrosse Hosts No. 17 Johns Hopkins Sunday on ESPNU

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State men's lacrosse and No. 17 Johns Hopkins meet for the second time this season when the teams play Sunday at Panzer Stadium. The game is scheduled for 2 p.m. and will air live on ESPNU.

SERIES HISTORY
• Johns Hopkins leads 10-3 in the all-time series with Penn State, but the Lions have won three of the past four matchups.
• The teams first played in 1916.
• All three Penn State wins against Johns Hopkins came during Jeff Tambroni's time as head coach.
• The Blue Jays won the first matchup between the teams this season 13-6.
• T.J. Malone had two goals and two assists for the Lions.

SCOUTING THE BLUE JAYS
• Johns Hopkins is 2-3 following a 15-9 loss to Rutgers in its most recent game. The Blue Jays also have losses to Ohio State and Maryland and wins over Michigan and Penn State.

• Connor DeSimone leads Johns Hopkins in points (21), goals (13) and assists (13).

GAME 5 RECAP
• Penn State led 7-6 at the half but was out-scored 5-2 in the third quarter and went on to lose 14-12 to Michigan.
• Mac O'Keefe eclipsed the 200-career goal milestone during the game. He led the team with four points on three goals and one assist.
• Seven players scored for Penn State, including Jackson Reynolds with his first career hat trick.
• Bryce Clay scored five goals for the Wolverines.

O'KEEFE NEARING NCAA GOALS RECORD
•  Mac O'Keefe needs 11 goals to become the NCAA's all-time career goals leader.
• The record is currently held by Duke's Justin Guterding, who scored 212 goals in 75 games from 2015-18.
• O'Keefe needs five goals to pass Zack Greer (Duke, 2005-08) for second on the list.
• O'Keefe's 202 goals have come in 60 games.

O'KEEFE GOAL STREAK
•  Mac O'Keefe is first among active players with a 37-game goal-scoring streak.
• O'Keefe has 135 goals during that stretch.
• The last game O'Keefe didn't score a goal was in a 9-7 loss to Cornell on March 10, 2018.

MALONE LEADS THE OFFENSE
•  T.J. Malone has established himself as one of the leaders on the offensive end for Penn State in his junior season.
• He currently leads the team in points (20), goals (12) and assists (8).
• Malone picked up right where he left off in the shortened 2020 season, in which he had 23 points on 16 goals and seven assists in seven games. As a freshman in 2019, he totaled 36 points on 30 goals and six assists.

PENN STATE VS. BIG TEN
• Penn State is 55-104 (.346) all-time against current members of the Big Ten. The Lions are 24-19 (.558) against those same teams during head coach Jeff Tambroni's 11 seasons with the team.

• The Lions are 15-15 in Big Ten regular season games since the league added lacrosse in 2015. They have winning records in league play over Michigan, Ohio State and Rutgers.
 
KNEESE REACHES SAVES MILESTONE
•  Colby Kneese made his 600th career save during Penn State's game at Johns Hopkins on March 13.
• Kneese currently ranks third in program history in career saves with 621. He needs 66 to pass Austin Kaut (2011-14) for third and 85 to pass Drew Adams (2006-09) for the record.

TAMBRONI CLOSING IN ON MILESTONE
• Jeff Tambroni, who is in his 21st season as a head coach, is 199-98.
• His .670 winning percentage ranks sixth among all active NCAA Division I coaches.
• Tambroni's 90 wins at Penn State are the second-most in program history.
• Tambroni's .608 winning percentage at Penn State is easily the best in program history. Glenn Thiel is second at .559.
• Tambroni has had just one losing season in his 20 completed seasons as head coach.
