COLUMBUS, OH. -  The Penn State men's swimming team started their Big Ten Championship run on a high note, breaking a school record in both the events swam tonight. Day one of competition consisted of two relay events at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion in Columbus, Ohio.

Junior Michael Daly broke his own school record in the 200 free with his lead-off split in the 800 free relay. His new best of 1:34.39 is just over three-tenths faster than his previous record (1:34.79), which he earned in the same event at last year's Big Tens.

The 800 free relay consisting of Daly, Hayden Harlow, Lachlan Byrne, and William Lulek secured ninth with a final time of 6:25.43.

The 200 medley relay team of William Roberson, Daniel Raisanen, Jake Houck, and Gabe Castano locked in Penn State's new best time, swimming 1:24.86 for a fifth-place finish. The previous school record in the event has stood since 2014.

After the first night of competition, the Nittany Lions sit in eighth-place with 129 points. The point total includes results from the Big Ten Diving Championships

Contest begins again Wednesday morning at 11 a.m. ET with preliminary swims in the 200 IM, 50 free, and 500 free. Finals for all three events will begin at 6:30 p.m. ET. All sessions will be streamed live via BTN Plus with live stats available on Sidearm and Meet Mobile.
