O’Neill Wins Fourth Big Ten Freshman Of The Week Honor

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State women's lacrosse midfielder Kristin O'Neill was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week on Tuesday. O'Neill earned the award for the fourth time this season and has been selected as Freshman of the Week four of the six times it has been given out in 2021.
 
O'Neill had a major impact on both sides of the field in Penn State's series at Ohio State. She collected three goals, three ground balls, a draw control and three caused turnovers.
 
In Friday's game, O'Neill scored on a free-position chance in the first half. She added two ground balls, a draw control and a team-high three caused turnovers.
 
The Maryland native recorded two goals, including one in each half, in Sunday's game.
 
On the season, O'Neill is tied for the team-lead with 19 goals. She also has five assists, 10 ground balls, four draw controls and nine caused turnovers. O'Neill has recorded multiple points in seven of eight games this season.
 
O'Neill ranks seventh in the Big Ten in total goals and eighth in goals per game (2.38). She also sits fourth in free-position goals per game (0.75) and ninth in caused turnovers per game (1.12). O'Neill ranks eighth in the country and second in the Big Ten in free-position percentage (.750).
 
Among Division I freshmen, O'Neill is tied for fourth in total points (24) and seventh in points per game (3.0). She's also tied for fifth in goals per game (2.38) and sixth in total goals (19).
 
The Nittany Lions, led by Head Coach Missy Doherty, return to action on Wednesday, April 7 to visit Johns Hopkins. First draw is scheduled for 4 p.m. with a broadcast on ESPNU.
 
Penn State is currently ranked 14th in the IWLCA Poll and 15th in the Inside Lacrosse Poll.
