PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The Penn State track & field team completed a two-meet weekend on Saturday when the team competed at the Rutgers B1G Tri-Meet in New Jersey.
"We had a split-squad weekend and both groups accomplished very impressive performances," Head Coach John Gondak said. "There were a lot of personal bests across both the Indiana group and the Rutgers group. It is exciting to see our student athletes improve each week and put themselves in position to be competitive during the championship season. I am looking forward to seeing our continued improvement next weekend in Texas."
After a solid performance on Friday from the distance group in Indiana, most of the Nittany Lions were in action on Saturday and Penn State earned several event victories.
The Nittany Lions added several victories in field events on Saturday. Taylor Givens set a new outdoor PR of 5.91m to win the women's long jump and Carena Nottoli won the women's pole vault with a 3.90m.
The strong start to the season for the throws squad continued this weekend, as they added four more victories to their resume. David Lucas earned his first victory of 2021, winning the men's discus throw with a toss of 57.52m. Penn State finished first and second in the women's discus throw, with Piper Klinger placing first with a mark of 47.79m (156-09) and Mallory Kauffman finishing second with a throw of 44.85m (147-01). The Nittany Lions also won both the men's and women's shot put, with Kauffman winning on the women's side with a 15.62m toss (51-03.00) and freshman Lucianno Pizarro winning the men's even with a PR of 17.22m (56-06.00). He has now set a personal best in each of his three meets this outdoor season.
On the track, Hudson Delisle highlighted the team's victories with a 3:55 time to win the men's 1500m run.
Conference action continues for the Nittany Lions next weekend, as they will head to Prairie View, Texas for the Big Ten Texas Invite. The neutral site meet is scheduled for April 16 and 17.
