O’Neill Claims Fifth Big Ten Freshman Of The Week Award

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State women's lacrosse midfielder Kristin O'Neill secured her fifth Big Ten Freshman of the Week award on Tuesday. O'Neill has won the award five out of the eight weeks it has been given out. She was a major contributor to Penn State's 16-9 win over No. 9 Maryland on Sunday.
 
In two games last week, against Johns Hopkins and Maryland, O'Neill collected six goals, an assist, two ground balls and a draw control.
 
In Sunday's win over Maryland, the freshman notched a career-high six points, including a career-best five goals and an assist. O'Neill recorded three goals and an assist in the first half, including two goals in a 6-0 run to give Penn State an early 7-1 lead. She scored one goal at Johns Hopkins, adding a ground ball and a draw control.
 
With her six-point effort against the Terrapins, O'Neill posted her eighth multi-point game this season.
 
On the year, O'Neill has 31 points, including a team-high 25 goals.
 
Among Division I freshmen, O'Neill is tied sixth in total points (31) and points per game (3.10). She's also tied third in total goals (25) and tied fourth in goals per game (2.5).
 
The Nittany Lions, led by Head Coach Missy Doherty, is 4-6 this season. Penn State is ranked 13th in the IWLCA Poll and 17th in the Inside Lacrosse Poll.
 
Penn State concludes the regular season with two games this week. On Thursday, the blue and white travels to No. 24 Rutgers for a 3 p.m. matchup on Big Ten Network+. On Sunday, the Nittany Lions host No. 20 Johns Hopkins at 1 p.m., also on Big Ten Network+.
