Nebraska Visits Happy Valley for Three-Game Stint

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State baseball program (8-13, 8-13) returns to Medlar Field at Lubrano Park to host the Nebraska Cornhuskers. 

The Nittany Lions are coming off a 2-2 weekend in which they won a game each against Michigan State and Purdue.

The Nittany Lions last played the Huskers in a three-game series in 2019. The Nittany Lions fell in three tightly contested games. The Nittany Lions fell, 3-1, 4-2 and 3-2.

Penn State's last win against Nebraska came on May 18, 2017 when the Nittany defeated the Huskers 8-7.

Diamond Lions on the Bump

Bailey Dees will get the ball on Friday night to face Cade Povich. Dees is 2-2 on the season with 31.1 innings pitched. Dees has struck out 29 opposing hitters so far this season.

Conor Larkin starts on Saturday following his win in his last start against Michigan State. Larkin went 5.2 innings pitched, allow only four hits and striking out four. Larkin has won each of his last two starts.

Kyle Virbitsky starts on the final day of the series after a career-best outing in his last outing. Virbitsky was masterful, going 8.1 innings pitched, scattering five hits and struck out six. Virbitsky did not allow  a run in the game.

Penn State Hitters

The Nittany Lions are 5-5 in their last 10 games and five Nittany Lions are hitting over .300 during that time. Gavin Homer is batting .387 in his last 10 games and Matt Wood is hitting .385 with a pair of home runs in that same time.

Parker Hendershot found his stroke in his last three starts, batting .545 with a pair of home runs. Hendershot is slugging 1.091 in those three starts and had a perfect 1.000 fielder percentage.

Wood continues to see the ball well at the plate. To go along with his .385 average in the last 10, seven of his 10 hits have been for extra bases.
