UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State men's golf team travels to Columbus, Ohio, for the 49th annual Kepler Intercollegiate Saturday-Sunday, April 24-25. The Nittany Lions are part of a 16-team field that includes 11 Big Ten teams competing on the Scarlet Course with a par 72 and 6,668-yard layout. Penn State finished in the top four in each of the last three of its outings at Ohio State.
"The four ranked teams (in the field) will be a challenge, as will be several others that are far better than their ranking in this year of extremely varied training and COVID scheduling," said Penn State men's golf head coach Greg Nye. "It should be a battle in Columbus as several scramble to position themselves for the postseason at-large selections."
Graduate students Alec Bard (New Hartford, New York) and Ryan Davis (Berkeley Heights, New Jersey), seniors James McHugh (Rye, New York) and Lou Olsakovsky (Upper St. Clair, Pennsylvania), and sophomore Patrick Sheehan (Doylestown, Pennsylvania) will represent the Nittany Lions this weekend.
The field comprised of Dayton, Indiana, No. 9 Illinois, No. 44 Iowa, No. 46 Kent State, No. 15 Liberty, Maryland, Michigan, Michigan State, Northern Illinois, Northwestern, Ohio State, Penn State, Purdue, Rutgers and Toledo are scheduled to play two rounds Saturday with a final round on Sunday. Tee times will be available Friday at Golfstat.com and goPSUsports.com.
Penn State surged in the final round of its home tournament last Sunday afternoon with a season-best and 7-under par final round to claim a sixth-straight Rutherford Intercollegiate team championship. Six Nittany Lions finished in the top 16 with a career-low round of 208 (5-under) from Sheehan for second place overall in the winning effort.
Live stats and results from the Kepler Intercollegiate will be available on GolfStat. A recap of each day's round and results will be available on GoPSUsports.com.
