UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State's Mac O'Keefe was named as one of 25 nominees for the 2021 Tewaaraton Award on Thursday. It is the second time O'Keefe has been tabbed as a nominee for the prestigious award.
The Tewaaraton Award is recognized as the pre-eminent lacrosse award, annually honoring the top male and female college lacrosse player in the United States. The selection committees are comprised of premier college coaches and are appointed annually by the Tewaaraton Foundation.
Five men's and five women's finalists will be selected from these groups, to be announced in three weeks at the conclusion of the regular season. Details on the 2021 Tewaaraton Award Winners announcement will be forthcoming in the next few weeks.
O'Keefe has totaled 29 points on 25 goals and four assists in addition to 18 ground balls and seven caused turnovers in nine games this season, including an impressive performance on Senior Day in the team's recent win over Michigan. He tallied six goals, including the game-winner with three seconds left in overtime against the Wolverines.
O'Keefe's second goal of the game against Michigan was the 213th of his career, giving him the NCAA Division I record. He currently has 263 career points on 217 goals and 46 assists. He has added 98 ground balls and 28 caused turnovers.
